Olympiacos 2-0 Levadiakos

As the cliche goes, the game today really was a game of two halves. The first half was pretty poor by any standards for us. Despite opening up with a full strength team, we really struggled to control possession and got very chances on the Levadiakos goalmouth. It was Levadiakos who were pressuring during the half and the half really couldn't be over soon enough for me.

The second half was much better, Olaitan scored the opening goal after putting the final touch on a ball pinging around the Levadia 6 yard box. The goal seemed to change the game around and from this point onwards we were pushing the ball well into their area. The second goal came from a tight shot to the left of goal courtesy of Jose Holebas and it sealed the win for us.

Not the worst game in the world but due to the first half, it was hardly the best either. Overall we were far from convincing and it looked like Mitroglou wasn't match ready.

Levadiakos 0-1 Olympiakos

Another week and another insipid first half from our team, augmented by our managers amazing knack of playing Machado out of position on the wing and favouring him over more suitable players. The action in the first half wasn't really worth mentioning and we only made 4 shots on target in the opening 45 minutes. The best of these was a close range backheel in the 23rd minute from Greco which was cleared off the line. Apart from this, nothing of any note.

The bizarre substitution of taking Greco off rather than the underperforming Machado at halftime did nothing to help the situation and the second half continued with another poor performance from the team with very little action to talk of. A second substitution on the 70' mark did allow us to get two strikers onto the pitch and change the system but we still couldn't manage to make any chances which counted.
Our final change in the 80th minute saw all 3 strikers now on the pitch but despite a point blank header from Modesto cleared off the line, we didn't manage to create much.
However, just as the game was about to end up came Djebbour who headed in literally the last shot of the game. 90+6' for the winning goal and Jardim is a lucky lucky man.

Olympiakos 4-0 Levadiakos

We had our first home match of the season tonight with our opponents being Levadiakos. Due to injury, Papazoglou came in for Contreras but apart from that it was almost the same lineup that we had utilised in last weeks match in Veroia. Perhaps we would see a better performance though as the team gets more used to the system. A minutes silence was held before the game kicked off and then it was into the match proper.

The match was not even 5 minutes old when we managed to score the opener from an indirect free kick delivered from just outside the box. The ball was shot at the wall itself but was low enough and had enough power to get through the defenders to where Siovas was waiting at the far side. A simple flick from him and the keeper was beaten, the result was our first goal at Karaiskaki for this season. The game continued with ourselves performing much of the attacking although Levadiakos also came forward on occasion.

After the first fifteen minutes Levadiakos started to pick themselves up and began to make more forays into our half. We usually broke these attacks up easily and then countered with runs of our own but it was also disconcerting to see a team like Levadiakos getting forward and controlling the centre of the pitch. We eventually took over once again in the midfield and made a corner or two but without any more success on goal.

Towards the end of the first half, Levadiakos once again made an effort to come forward en-masse and this caused us some defensive problems for a few minutes. We recovered though without allowing them to create any chances and went on the attack ourselves, scoring our second goal of the game. This came after a free kick was drifted into the box and the keeper caught it, dropped it and whilst the Levadiakos players protested and thought the keeper had been impeded, Djebbour shot into the goal. We finished off the first period making more attacks on the Levadia goal albeit unsuccessfully.

So at the end of the first half we have two goals but our play has not been overly great. We gave away possession in the middle of the pitch too easily and we seem to sit back further up the field than we did last year. This limits us when we counter attack to only using the two wingers and the striker and I'd prefer for the midfield to be a little more involved in building the attacks. Still despite our indifferent play we are two goals to the good.

The second half saw us continuing with our attacking play and almost got lucky in the 54th minute when Djebbour managed to dribble into the area. He was tackled however before he could fire the ball on target and score his second goal of the night. It was almost all one-way traffic in the fifteen minutes following the restart, Levadiakos only made one limp attack and we soon dealt with that. To round off this peiod of play, Djebbour got into the box once again and this time had his shot on goal blocked by the Levadia defence.

Our third goal of the night was scored on the 63rd minute with Maniatis getting on the scoresheet. This time the call was passed into the box from the left hand side by Abdoun, Maniatis was at the near side post in a good enough position to slide the ball into the net. Levadiakos came forward once more but we managed to easily break down their attacks. Djebbour, Abdoun and Machado managed to break through the opposition defence entirely but then spoiled their own chance when Djebbour inexplicably passed the ball forward to Abdoun and lose the ball through offside.

We scored the fourth goal in the 74th minute after another Abdoun and Djebbour breakaway (Abdoun should have been flagged offside for the initial pass to him) and Djebbour was on hand to put the finishing touches to a very fast break after Abdoun had confounded the keeper. Another good set of attacks just minutes later threatened to give us another goal but Levadiakos managed to recover and clear the ball from their box. We continued to pressurise around the opposition goalmouth and managed to give Levadiakos some real problems for their defence - they had to really struggle to get the all away on occasion. The game ended after just two minutes of extra time and we had managed to notch up another win.

In summary, the second half was so much better than the first. We played with a much higher line and the result was that we hald onto the ball for longer periods and also managed to control the midfield effectively. Abdoun was also much better in the second half and notched up two assists for his troubles. We now move onto PAS Giannena away for next weekends match.

Olympiakos 3-1 Levadiakos

Introduction
In tonights game, we faced Levadiakos for the second time in 3 days after beating them 3-0 on Wednesday evening. We have a number of ongoing injuries in the team at the minute so we employed a very makeshift lineup. Nevertheless we could look forward to obtaining an easy victory in the match. This game also marked the first appearance of Diogo for 18 months after returning from his loans in Brazil.

Equal Start
The opening minutes of the match were very evenly matched. Both ourselves and Levadiakos seemed to have equal possession of the ball and in similar areas of the pitch. The best opportunities in this phase were headers on goal from Diogo and Mellberg (following a corner) whilst Levadiakos made a very smart counter attack which required Megyeri to intercept the ball to stop a goalscoring chance from occurring and another chance from a piss-poor backpass courtesy of Marcano.

Complacency Creeps In
Slowly but surely though, we started to take control of the game and get the ball into the Levadiakos half more often. Despite the advantage we were suffering from the usual problem of not being able to create too much with the ball and the defenders simply using the 'park-the-bus' tactic to crowd out our attackers. We didn't make things easy for ourselves though and our passing was too poor allowing the ball to be intercepted too often.

The Goals Finally Arrive
During the last fifteen minutes of the half, the quality of our play dropped again and became complacent. This allowed Levadiakos to create chances of their own and get more time on the ball whilst the crowd rightly signalled their discontent. We created several corners in the half (eight at least) but created hardly any chances from any of them. Our break however came from a free kick which was deflected off the head of Levadiakos player Bourbos and looped into the net to give us the lead, albeit from an own goal.
The second goal and a more deserved goal came from a Mirallas shot in the 44th minute where he time his run well and shot into the net (although his shot deflected from a Levadia defender). So we ended the half 2-0 up and managed to save ourselves some halftime blushes.

Resurgent In The Second Half
After the second half had begun, we looked a lot brighter and more active than we had in the first half. We were making a lot of runs and more frequent chances on the Levadiakos goal. We made several chances on their goal during the first ten minutes of the second half whilst Levadiakos had a lot of trouble even clearing the ball from their area. Tey did have one good counter attack in that time dragging the ball down to our area and winning their first corner of the game but we managed to remove the threat eventually.

Two More Goals
After the opening stage of the second half, Levadiakos made a few chances for themselves around our net, winning themselves a couple of corners and having some shots on our goal - one of which eventually went into the net. Levadiakos managed to break our defence using a fast 1-2 pass whilst our defence tried to catch up. Megyeri couldn't manage to intercept the ball and it was tapped home by Napoleoni. The Levadia fightback did not last long however and we managed to grab a third goal (Mirallas) after a cross was headed into the net from close range.

The Game Finishes
The last fifteen minutes of the game saw our third legitimate penalty claim denied by the referee as we continued to pressue the Levadiakos defence. We made a number of chances on goal but failed to get any on target and so saw opportunities fade away. Levadiakos made a couple of attacks during this time but luckily didn't score any goals. Some of our defending during this time was poor and allowed Levadia's Popovic at least one open shot on goal. The game finished after two minutes of additional time (and a denied penalty from a handball in the box) and we can look forward to our next matches. The referee was truly abysmal in this game!

Incidentally, today is the fourteenth of January, roughly about halfway through the transfer window - Are we getting any players at all?

Levadiakos 0-4 Olympiakos

Introduction
We played Levadiakos today in an early evening game (this was our delayed matchday 2 fixture). The team was virtually the same as the lineup employed just 3 days ago and although we had some concerns about fatigue and fitness, there was no reason why we shouldn't have been looking to have won today.

The First Half
The opening of the game saw both sides strive to put their stamp on the match and although we were slightly the better team during these early skirmishes, neither side managed to show any great superiority over the other. We had made two half decent attacks by the 8th minute (through Marcano of all people) but hadn't created anything of notable substance. Fetfatzidis also had a fine chance on goal during the 8th minute but the scoring opened properly for us in the 9th.

Opening Goals
In the ninth minute, Modesto was found with the ball on the right hand side of the pitch and furiously running up the wing. A neat side pass back to Pantelic in the centre of the pitch allowed the Serb to make the shot and he simply fired it past the goalkeeper to open the scoring. The goal seemed to provide some impetus to our team and we started to look a lot more in control of the game after this point. A second goal seemed to be looming and so it proved, with Mirallas grabbing his chance to fire on goal from a tight angle after bursting into the box and Levadiakos found themselves 2-0 down.

Controlling The Game
Once we had doubled our lead we seemed to relax a little as a team and allow Levadiakos to come into the game a little more. Levadiakos were then found making some attacks and winning a couple of corners although there was nothing too serious for our team to contend with. When we counter attacked, we looked a lot more dangerous and usually took the ball to the Levadia goalmouth. Fetfatzidis in particular had a fine shot on goal which required an acrobatic save from the opposing keeper. Monche likewise, made a great move dribbling around one of the opposition defenders but found his chance on goal deflected wide.

Mirallas Scores Again
As Levadiakos were being forced further and further upfield, their team's attacks decreased in potency and frequence something that we were not slow to notice and react on. We started to attack in more numbers and create more and more chances on the opposition goal. We scored a third goal in the half with a fine solo effort which saw Mirallas shooting low from just outside the 'D' and rifling his shot past the keeper and into the back of the net. This proved to be the final notable act of the first half and we finished with the game virtually already won.

Second Half
Initially the second half sees Levadiakos make a couple of attacks, however it isn't long before we've taken control again and we were doing all the attacking once more. We utilise our time attacking to win a number of corners and free kicks around the Levadiakos defence. The opposition in the meantime were being pegged back into their own half and unable to even grab the ball. As if to illustrate our superiority in the game, we managed to score a fourth goal of the game with a scissor kick from Mirallas (after a saved shot from Fetfatzidis). This goal saw Mirallas earn his hat trick and to be honest he had rightly earned it after his performance.

Winding Down
Levadiakos's introduction of striker Napoleoni gave them a slightly better attacking option but with the game as good as won, Levadia were only playing for a little dignity by this time. Unfortunately for the opposition even with the substitutions our defence was still standing strong and they were not making any headway against us. Attacking wise though, We had dropped our aggressive style of play and were winding down the game in the main, passing the ball around with no real purpose.

Finish
Our side continued in this competant if somewhat uninspiring style of play for the final ten minutes of the match. With the finish of the game (after 3 minutes of additional time) we had won a relatively easy match. Levadiakos had done nothing of any note in the game and had looked uninspiring throughout. Our next game (and the final one for the first half of the league) sees us back in the Karaiskaki stadium against PAS Giannena. After that, we have Pierikos in the cup and that'll be it for 2011.
